Lineman

“At KPUB, I work with a great team of other line workers who all take pride in the work we do and are always ready to roll up our sleeves and help each other out. I love that my job as a KPUB lineman challenges me every day in different ways and the brotherhood it involves in training one another. KPUB is a great company that has offered me an opportunity to develop my career here, and I’m able to use my skills and knowledge to keep progressing in this line of work and continuously grow.”

Community Involvement

KPUB is committed to being a good corporate citizen in the community we serve and making the Kerrville area a better place to work, live and raise our families. We promote employee involvement in our community by allowing employees time away from work to volunteer to help at various nonprofit organizations in the area that support our citizens.

In addition, we also support employees as they volunteer to participate on various nonprofit boards throughout the community. As you join KPUB, please discuss your volunteer aspirations with your supervisor.

Apprenticeship Program

KPUB and other utilities play an enormous role in apprenticeship. KPUB’s apprenticeship program is recognized by the Department of Labor and audited frequently to ensure compliance and integrity. To become a Journey Lineman, Apprentice Linemen, or trainees, must complete 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 144 hours of bookwork on their own time. Once completed, graduates receive a certificate of completion and a certification that will carry throughout their careers.

The apprenticeship in Texas a paid program designed to focus on training and education. Apprentices work with and learn from established Journeymen in a hands-on setting. KPUB linemen serve as coaches, mentors, and teachers to the apprentices during their training. Apprentices will also work in several different areas of the industry, such as the substations and power lines. Much of our linemen’s success is attributed to the Journey Linemen that train the apprentices.

Since 2006, KPUB has had 25 apprentices complete the training and receive their certification recognized by the Department of Labor. Today, 12 of those linemen are still employed at Kerrville Public Utility Board. We are so incredibly grateful for all our linemen and their dedication to our community. Thank you, KPUB linemen!
