Home Weatherization Program
The Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB) sponsors a home weatherization program each year to help our friends and neighbors save energy and money. This successful program is designed to increase your home’s energy-efficiency and lower your utility bills.
The home weatherization program is funded by KPUB to provide free home energy improvements and is 100% free to qualified residential customers. The end result is a home that stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter!
- All applicants of the program will receive a free energy audit to help identify areas of air infiltration.
- The homes selected will have additional attic insulation installed as they usually have little to no existing insulation. KPUB has been assisted by several insulation contractors in providing materials and/or labor to install the new installation.
- Caulking and weather-stripping are also installed to reduce energy-wasting drafts.
The program goal is to assist customers in lowering their utility bills by increasing the energy efficiency of their homes to reduce heat loss in the winter and summer cooling loads.
While we would love to assist all of our community, this program is designed to provide assistance primarily to KPUB’s elderly, low-income or handicapped customers.

Other types of assistance resources
The AACOG Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is designed to help low-income people, particularly the elderly and handicapped, overcome the high cost of energy through the installation of energy conservation measures at no cost to the applicant. Although the program does not address major home repairs, it can help lower the amount of energy used in a home by enhancing the structure’s thermal boundary. Like a styrofoam cup, the house will stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. The less energy it takes to heat or cool the house, the more money is saved.
