April 10, 2025— As spring heats up, the Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB) is launching two free community events aimed at helping customers stay cool and save on their electric bills. Unlike investor-owned utilities, KPUB is a not-for-profit, community-owned organization that puts people before profits. That customer-first mission is at the heart of both the upcoming Power Hour: Energy Myths Unplugged event on April 24 and the Community Energy Savings & Bingo Event on May 9.

The Power Hour session, scheduled for Thursday, April 24 from 9–10 a.m. at the KPUB Boardroom (2250 Memorial Blvd), will separate fact from fiction when it comes to saving energy. This expert-led presentation will address common energy myths, highlight real strategies to reduce electricity usage, and offer tips that can lead to meaningful savings on monthly bills. Attendance is limited, and RSVPs are required by emailing [email protected]. A recording will also be available on KPUB’s YouTube channel for those who can’t attend in person.

The Community Energy Savings & Bingo Event will take place on Friday, May 9, at the Doyle Community Center from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This come-and-go event is hosted in partnership with the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and the Doyle. KPUB and AACOG representatives will be onsite from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., sharing valuable information about energy-saving programs, electric bill discounts, and free weatherization assistance. Attendees will be able to apply onsite for AACOG’s 100% free Weatherization Assistance Program, which helps income-qualifying households reduce long-term energy costs through upgrades like insulation, HVAC improvements, and air leak sealing.

Applicants should bring proof of income, identification for all household members, and a current utility bill.

From 12-2 p.m., the event will shift into celebration mode with a free lunch, bingo, live music by Ray Gutierrez, and exciting giveaways, including LED bulbs, box fans, and a smart thermostat package, which includes the installation of the thermostat plus a free HVAC inspection & tune-up.

“All of these efforts come back to our commitment to serve the community,” said Allison Bueche, KPUB’s Director of Customer and Community Relations. “It’s not often that a utility company encourages you to use less of their product, but at KPUB, helping our customers save money and use energy smarter is exactly what we’re here for.”
