October 23, 2025—As temperatures begin to drop, Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB) is helping customers get ready for winter with two free community events focused on energy savings, safety, and preparedness. This past summer’s Hill Country flood and the February 2021 snowstorm are just two examples of the extreme weather events our community has faced. Together, they have shown how unpredictable Texas weather can be, how valuable preparation truly is, and the resilience we share as a community.

On Thursday, November 13, 2025, KPUB will host Ready, Set, Winter Prep, a special Power Hour presentation from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the KPUB Boardroom. During this free session, KPUB staff will share practical winterization tips, essential safety guidance, and emergency planning resources to help customers stay comfortable and confident during extreme cold weather. The presentation will also highlight how KPUB has strengthened its systems and processes since the 2021 winter storm, including what to expect and how to stay informed in the event of rotating outages.

As an added bonus, all attendees will receive a free winter heat blanket kit that includes weather stripping and two LED light bulbs and will be entered into a drawing for a Smart Nest Thermostat. Coffee and refreshments will be provided. Space is limited, and RSVPs are required. Those interested can reserve a spot by emailing [email protected].

The following week, KPUB will partner with the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) for a Community Weatherization Event on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dietert Center. This event will provide residents with valuable information on how to prepare their homes for winter and save on energy costs.

Representatives from KPUB and AACOG will be on hand to share free funding opportunities and answer questions about rebates, free energy audits, bill discounts, and more. Attendees will receive free winter heat blanket kits, complete with weather stripping, and will have another opportunity to enter a drawing for a free Smart Nest Thermostat.

AACOG staff will be on-site to assist eligible households with applications for their Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), which offers free home energy-efficiency upgrades, such as insulation, new water heaters, and weather-stripping, and even new HVAC units. These upgrades help reduce energy usage and create long-term savings for both renters and homeowners.

“Our goal is to empower our customers with tools, knowledge, and resources to stay safe, warm, and energy-efficient all winter long,” said Allison Bueché, KPUB’s Director of Customer & Community Relations. “We’re proud to partner with AACOG once again to help our community save energy—and money—this season.”

The Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB), owned by the City of Kerrville, serves approximately 24,000 customers throughout Kerr County. KPUB is overseen by a five-member board of trustees and is committed to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electric service to the community.
