Outage Response:
Our crews are on call and responding 24/7 to outages as conditions require. KPUB has been closely monitoring the storm and preparing in advance, with crews ready to respond as weather conditions change. Thankfully, we have not experienced major impacts from this winter weather event so far. We have seen a few small outages affecting 10 or fewer customers, along with a 144-customer outage in the Scenic Hills area this morning caused by high electric demand during extreme cold. Power was restored within 45 minutes.
Important Reminder:
We have received several outage-related calls where power loss was caused by tripped breakers. If your power is out, please check your breakers first, if it is safe to do so, as this may quickly restore service without the need to report an outage.
Warming Stations:
Local officials have opened a warming station at Calvary Temple Church for those who may need a safe, heated place during this cold weather (and pets are welcome!).
Winter Weather Safety Reminders:
Travel is discouraged while icy road conditions persist.
Continue to protect the 4 Ps:
-
Plants: Cover outdoor plants or bring them indoors
-
Pets: Bring pets inside and out of the cold
-
Pipes: Insulate exposed pipes and protect outdoor faucets
-
People: Check on friends and neighbors, especially those who may need extra help
Space Heater Safety Reminder:
Keep space heaters at least three feet from anything flammable, place them on a stable surface, turn them off when unattended or while sleeping, and plug them directly into a wall outlet.
If you plan to use a portable generator, please review generator safety guidance before operating. Improper generator use can be extremely dangerous. Always operate generators outdoors only and far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never backfeed a generator by plugging it into a wall outlet or home wiring. Backfeeding can send electricity onto power lines and seriously injure or kill utility lineworkers who may be repairing outages, and it can also cause fires or damage when power is restored.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to serve our community during this weather event. Please stay safe and take precautions while winter conditions persist.
