This year marks 39 years since the City of Kerrville purchased the electric distribution system from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), placing the community’s electric utility under local ownership. Looking ahead, KPUB is also powering forward with its new natural gas-fired power generation plant, scheduled to come online in June 2027. This strategic move has been a long-term consideration for the electric utility company for several decades. The energy market has become increasingly volatile with market scarcity, rising power demand and extreme weather events. This project strengthens KPUB’s ability to protect our ratepayers and continue offering some of the lowest electric rates in Texas for decades to come.
Today, KPUB’s rates remain among the lowest in Texas and across the United States, while the utility continues investing in reliability and resiliency. KPUB also maintains APPA’s Reliable Public Power Provider designation and has earned national recognition for customer satisfaction, reliability, smart energy practices, safety and more.

Weatherize & Save: A Community Home Energy Event
On Wednesday, October 7, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m., KPUB will host Weatherize & Save: A Community Home Energy Event in the KPUB Board Room.
Attendees can pick up free energy-saving supplies, including caulk, weatherstripping, LED light bulbs and other weatherization materials while supplies last. Representatives from the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) will also be on site to provide information about the Weatherization Assistance Program and help residents learn whether they may qualify for free home energy improvements.
The event will also recognize National LED Light Day and National Energy Efficiency Day with energy-saving information and giveaways.
Power Hour: Powering Forward, Our Public Power Story
On Friday, October 9, from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., KPUB will host a special Power Hour Lunch & Learn in the KPUB Board Room, with Q&A to follow.
The presentation will highlight KPUB’s public power story—from its history, competitive rates and award-winning reliability to investments in generation and infrastructure, community impact, and programs that help customers save energy and money.

6th Annual Bucket Truck Ride Event
On Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m.–1 p.m., KPUB will host its 6th Annual Bucket Truck Ride Event at a NEW location this year: River Star Arts & Events Park, 4000 Riverside Drive.
The free, family-friendly event will feature bucket truck rides, line worker tool displays, photo opportunities with KPUB line workers, face painting and interactive energy education activities for children. Each child who visits the energy education station will receive a free activity book. Free hot dogs, chips, snow cones, refreshments and event T-shirts will be available at the park while supplies last. Children’s Coloring Contest
KPUB’s annual coloring contest is open to 1st–5th grade students, with submissions due by Wednesday, September 30. Entries must be submitted to the student’s school or KPUB’s office by 5 p.m.
One winner from each grade will receive a $50 Amazon gift card, Public Power Week T-shirt and KPUB gift basket. Winners will be announced at the Bucket Truck Ride Event on October 10, and top entries will be displayed at the event and featured in KPUB publications. Drawings & Giveaways
Throughout Public Power Week, customers can stop by the KPUB lobby Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. to enjoy free cookies, pick up LED light bulbs (limit two per customer) and grab a 2027 KPUB calendar.
Customers can also enter to win a smart Nest thermostat package, including free installation and an HVAC system inspection and tune-up. The winner will be drawn at 1 p.m. during the Bucket Truck Ride Event on October 10, and participants do not need to be present to win.
