October 19, 2026—As cooler temperatures approach, Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB) is helping residents prepare their homes for winter while finding ways to save energy and money. KPUB is partnering with the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG) and the Dietert Center to host a free Community Home Energy Event on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Grill Room at the Dietert Center, located at 451 Guadalupe St. in Kerrville. The event will be held in a come-and-go format, allowing residents to stop by at their convenience.

The event will connect residents with valuable resources to improve their homes’ energy efficiency, reduce electric bills, and stay comfortable throughout the colder months. As a locally owned, not-for-profit public utility, KPUB is committed to helping customers use electricity wisely and keep their energy costs as affordable as possible. Events like this are one way KPUB puts that commitment into action by connecting residents with practical tools, information, and assistance programs that can make a meaningful difference in their household budgets.

Representatives from KPUB and AACOG will be on hand to share information about available energy-saving opportunities and answer residents’ questions. KPUB staff can provide guidance on the utility’s rebate programs, home energy audits, and Community Solar Program, which offers income-qualified customers monthly electric bill discounts at no cost to participate. AACOG representatives will also be available to discuss free weatherization assistance and help eligible households explore available home energy-efficiency upgrades.

Through AACOG’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), eligible households may qualify for free home energy-efficiency improvements, such as insulation, weather-stripping, water heaters, and heating and cooling system upgrades. These improvements can help reduce energy consumption, lower monthly utility expenses, and improve year-round comfort for both renters and homeowners.

AACOG staff will be available on-site to assist eligible households with weatherization applications. Residents interested in applying are encouraged to bring a recent utility bill, proof of income, and identification to help facilitate the process. Program participation is subject to income qualifications and eligibility requirements.

In addition to valuable energy-saving resources, attendees will have opportunities to take home free heat blanket kits and weatherization kits from KPUB, while supplies last. Free LED light bulbs will also be available, with a limit of two per person, and attendees can enter a drawing for a smart thermostat package. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

“It’s not often that a business encourages its customers to use less of its product, but as a not-for-profit, community-owned utility, our priorities are different,” said Allison Bueché, KPUB’s Director of Customer & Community Relations. “We’re here to serve our community, not generate profits for shareholders. Helping our customers use less electricity, lower their bills, and make their homes more energy-efficient is part of that commitment. We’re proud to partner with AACOG to connect residents with resources that can make a real difference.”

The event is free and open to the community. For more information about the event or KPUB’s weatherization and energy-saving programs, visit kpub.com/weatherization or call 830.257.3050.
